Jennie Pakula

After nearly three decades in lawyer regulation, Jennie will be opening an advisory service, The Lawyer’s Friend, in early 2024 to help lawyers with regulatory issues: compliance, practice set-up, client management and tech implementation. 

Jennie is also developing products including engagement tools, matter management policies and cost agreements that get lawyers and clients on the same page. 

Jennie’s goal is to help lawyers prevent and manage complaints, and offer practical and kind regulatory advice.

James D’Apice

Founder and principal lawyer at Gravamen, James has recently founded his own firm after 15 years working at other firms, including a stint as a Director at a national firm.

With expertise in partnership, trust and shareholder disputes, litigation forms the backbone of James’ practice. However, over time, James has found himself increasingly giving advice on the conduct of his clients outside of court. James’ specialty is resolving disputes between co-owners - either using litigation or negotiated agreement.

James is the creator, founder and presenter of the famed “Coffee and a Case Note” series of online videos and podcast episodes where he discusses up to the minute cases in his niche area and presents them to camera over a cup of coffee.

Michelle Snape

Michelle is a commercial lawyer and business strategist who runs her own practices as well as assisting other lawyers and business owners establish and enhance their operations.

Michelle is known for her wisdom and her innovation, establishing one of the first chambers model practices in regional NSW.

MIchelle has a background in education, & training, along with instructional design and compliance. Her combination of wisdom and skill has earned her the nickname ‘the oracle’ in her mastermind groups.

As a co-founder of LawAssist Online, Michelle is now focusing on establishing mentoring and training for other law firm owners and their teams to assist them to focus on being ‘better not bigger’.

Mel Telecican

As Founder and Managing Director of LawUE, Mel Telecican heads up a team of designers, developers, videographers, content writers, analysts, content creators and project managers to create the best law firm marketing agency in the world.

While Mel will continue to assist clients at LawUE with brand development, website design, SEO, article writing, social media and google ads, she has developed a range of digital products that will be joining our ranks shortly.

Fiona McLay

Fiona is the founder of McLay Legal Consulting and a legal tech author. She is a friendly face in the world of legal tech and helps lawyers make their firms more profitable and enjoyable places to work by harnessing the smart use of the right tech.

Her book, “Tech Enabled Lawyer” is jam-packed with practical insights and has been described as “the guide the industry has been crying out for”.

With 25 years as a dispute resolution lawyer under her belt, Fiona has experienced big city firms, in-house, and smaller, more innovative firms. This journey has given her an insider's view of how different law firms use their tech - and how to help them do it better.

A teaching fellow at the College of Law and a Geeky Guru at the Centre for Legal Innovation, Fiona is committed to implementing and teaching tech. She believes little tweaks to tech can make a huge difference and loves helping lawyers who aren’t that into tech see how a few small changes can make their work more efficient and more fun.

Through LawAssist.Online Emma provides the following to law firm owners:

  • digital product creation and consulting.

Before ceasing practice to focus on Ready to Boss Legal and LawAssist,Online, Emma was a practising lawyer for 23 years.

As a co-founder of LawAssist Online, Emma is placing her focus on resources and tools for lawyers and the social media and partnership aspects of the platform.

Kristen Porter

Kristen is a commercial lawyer, legal coach, digital marketer and founder of the highly niched virtual commercial law firm, "O*NO Legal - The Real Estate Agents’ Lawyer.

She helps real estate agency owners to shield their assets, future proof their business relationships, expand faster and plan their exit, so that her clients can increase the value of their agency and have peace of mind.

Ben Deverson

Ben Deverson is the Founder & Director Lawganised, a boutique management consulting firm that exclusively services the legal profession. 

Half of Ben’s 28 year career to date has been managing and leading professional services firms, including, prior to launching Lawganised, Ben was the Managing Director of a boutique law firm based in Brisbane.

Despite not being a lawyer himself, Ben is a specialist on all things legal practice management and operations. 

Ben and his team at Lawganised have advised over 200 law firms, including supporting clients with business planning, practice management systems, cash flow management, process automation, HR and people matters, performance metrics, leadership, and risk management.

Ben’s career has been unique in that he has held leadership and management roles from very early in his career including an Australian Army Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Practice Manager for two global accounting firms, a senior commercial manager of a major Queensland infrastructure project and CEO of an independent Statutory Body.

Lynda Babister

Lynda is the principal lawyer at Transitus Legal, a boutique firm in the Northern Illawarra of New South Wales. 

Lynda’s primary practice areas are family law, succession law and property law. 

Over the many years that she has practiced, Lynda has developed a passion for plain speaking and straightforward writing.  Communication is at the heart of her practice – either in advising clients in a way they understand, or preparing documents and correspondence that is clear, concise and accurate. 

Lynda has also spent many years mentoring law students, and young lawyers, and training them to be proficient in their own practice.

Prior to opening her own business, Lynda gained a science degree, spent several years working as a paralegal, and spent time working as a knowledge management lawyer.  This provided her with in-depth knowledge of the workings of law firms and a penchant for clear and concise writing.

Lynda brings this experience and knowledge to LawAssist to make available how-to guides, and a series of straightforward documents.
